Alzheimer's or Dementia Activity Program in Sequim
The Friends Place serves the vital need of providing a program to those in our community who are living with dementia, while giving brief respite to their dedicated caregivers. We offer a four hour program, currently one day a week, which provides a safe nurturing environment of cognitive therapy (brain games, memory stimulation, language and verbalization skills), socialization opportunities, physical fun (pool noodle balloon volleyball, modified dance and rhythmic movement, chair yoga) and a nutritious lunch.
A dedicated group of trained volunteers and professionals create a nurturing space of respect and inclusion - our name tags do not identify if someone is a participant or a volunteer, and we engage in the activities equally. We honor and respect the participants by seeing them, not their limitations, and “meeting them where they are” in their life journey. Our universal language is fun and laughter; whether you are a participant or a volunteer, those four hours at The Friends Place are the best hours of the day.
We are a service of Dungeness Community Church, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. To accomplish our goals we rely on donations. We request a $40 donation for a participant to attend, however, we do not turn anyone away because of their ability to pay.
We hope you will come, visit and experience The Friends Place firsthand. Be forewarned though, you just may have so much fun that you find yourself signing up to volunteer!
Due to confidentiality and participation limitations we are unable to accept "drop ins", but we would love to host a free initial visit. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.
